Deep-Penetrating Protection
A water-based, ready-to-use impregnation that penetrates into porous masonry and roof coverings to form a lasting hydrophobic barrier without changing the natural look of the surface.
Superior Water Resistance
Provides excellent waterproofing against driving rain, frost damage, efflorescence, and biological growth such as algae and moss.
Breathable & Invisible Finish
Unlike film-forming sealers, it allows full vapour permeability while drying to a completely clear, colourless finish—ideal for heritage brickwork, listed buildings, and conservation areas.
Keeps Masonry Dry
Reduces rain penetration into the outer leaf. Hidrollac WB is a hydrophobic treatment, not an insulant, and the manufacturer publishes no thermal performance data for it.
Easy Application
Ready-to-use liquid applied by brush or spray gun — the two methods the manufacturer publishes. A single saturating coat is sufficient, with drying achieved in 2–3 hours.
Single Saturating Coat
Applied in one coat to full substrate saturation. Additional coats do not improve performance and may cause surface whitening.
Low-VOC & Eco-Friendly
Water-based, non-film forming, and low in VOCs, making it safe to apply, environmentally responsible, and compliant with EU standards.
Sollac Hidrollac WB hydrophobic coating is suitable for a wide range of external building protection projects, including:
Brick and Masonry Façades – Protects porous walls from rain penetration while maintaining their natural look.
Heritage and Conservation Buildings – Ideal for listed properties and lime-based structures where breathability and invisible protection are essential.
Roof Coverings – Effective on porous clay tiles, slate, and concrete roof surfaces to prevent moisture absorption and frost damage.
Stone and Concrete Substrates – Provides long-term protection against weathering, staining, and algae growth.
Cavity and Solid Wall Protection – Reduces moisture ingress into the outer leaf of the wall build-up.
External Walls in Damp Climates – Perfect for exposed elevations subject to driving rain and high humidity.
Sollac Hidrollac WB hydrophobic coating is supplied ready-to-use and can be applied quickly and efficiently with standard equipment. For best results, surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from moss, algae, dust, oils, or efflorescence before treatment.
Brush Application – Suitable for small areas, detailed sections, or precision work around edges and joints.
Spray Gun (pistola) – One of the two application methods the manufacturer publishes, alongside brush. A roller is not a published method for this product.
Large façades and roof surfaces – Spray application gives full coverage and deep penetration into porous materials on larger areas.
Key Guidelines:
Apply in a single saturating coat until the surface is fully impregnated.
Avoid excessive build-up—Hidrollac WB is not a film-forming product.
Apply only when surface and air temperatures are above 10°C and at least 2–3°C above dew point.
Relative humidity should be below 80%.
Do not apply in direct sunlight or onto overheated surfaces.
Clean all tools and equipment with water immediately after use.
Sollac Hidrollac WB is a water-based hydrophobic impregnation. It penetrates into mineral substrates to create an invisible barrier that resists moisture ingress while allowing full vapour permeability. It is a water-repellent treatment, not an insulant, and we make no thermal performance claim for it.
Performance Characteristics:
Appearance: Milky liquid during application, dries to a completely clear and colourless finish.
Water Repellency: Excellent resistance against driving rain and surface water absorption.
Vapour Permeability: High – maintains breathability of walls and roofs, preventing trapped moisture.
Coverage: 5–7 m² per litre per coat (surface-dependent).
Drying Time: 2–3 hours at normal ambient conditions.
VOC Content: max. 1 g/L – water-based and very low VOC (EU Category A/i limit is 140 g/L).
Service Temperature Range: Suitable for application between 10°C and 35°C; substrate should be 2–3°C above dew point.
Packaging: Supplied in 1 L, 5 L, and 20 L containers.
Hidrollac WB is a hydrophobic impregnation. It is not an insulant and no thermal performance figure is published for it; any insulation or U-value benefit must come from the insulation specification, not from this treatment.
5 to 7 m² per litre, applied in one saturating coat until the substrate is fully impregnated. The rate varies with the nature and condition of the surface. Pack sizes are 1 L, 5 L and 20 L, so a 5 litre container treats roughly 25–35 m². Source: Ficha Técnica Hidrollac WB, REF 410.0134, rev. 2025.08.
Hidrollac WB is made in Portugal by NEWGER – Fabrico e Comércio de Tintas, Rep, Lda., trading as Sollac Tintas, of Torres Vedras.
This listing is the water-based variant, Hidrollac WB. A separate solvent-based Hidrollac exists; the manufacturer publishes no coverage rate for it. If you need the solvent-based grade, call 01208 832 602.
Correct surface preparation is essential to ensure the long-term performance of Sollac Hidrollac WB hydrophobic coating. All substrates must be:
Dry and Porous – Surfaces should be fully dry before application to allow deep penetration.
Clean and Contaminant-Free – Remove all traces of dirt, dust, oils, grease, or efflorescence.
Free from Biological Growth – Any moss, algae, or lichen should be removed by brushing or pressure washing. For best results, substrates can be treated with Hipolava Biocidal Cleaner to eliminate biological growth and inhibit future regrowth.
Sound and Stable – Repair cracks, defective mortar joints, or friable areas before treatment.
Uncoated – Do not apply over painted, sealed, or previously coated surfaces, as this will restrict penetration.
Once prepared, allow the substrate to dry fully before applying Hidrollac WB. Using Hipolava Biocidal Cleaner during preparation helps ensure maximum absorption, durability, and long-term effectiveness of the hydrophobic barrier.
While Sollac Hidrollac WB hydrophobic coating provides excellent water-repellent and thermal performance, it should be applied with consideration of the following limitations:
Not a Film-Forming Coating – The product penetrates substrates and does not create a surface film. It will not bridge cracks, voids, or structural defects.
Substrate Suitability – Designed for porous mineral substrates such as brick, masonry, stone, concrete, and porous roof coverings. It is not suitable for sealed, painted, or non-porous surfaces.
Single-Coat System – Additional coats will not enhance performance and may lead to surface whitening or reduced vapour permeability.
Application Conditions – Do not apply in temperatures below 10°C, in high humidity (>80%), during rainfall, or onto surfaces that are overheated from direct sunlight.
Colour Variations – While the product dries clear, very dark or highly absorbent substrates may show temporary darkening during curing.
Maintenance of Treated Surfaces – Effectiveness can be reduced by accumulation of dirt, surface coatings, or biological growth. Periodic cleaning may be required to maintain performance.
Not a Substitute for Repairs – Structural cracks, defective pointing, or major water ingress issues must be corrected before application.
Environmental Precautions – Avoid release into drains, waterways, or soil. The product is harmful to aquatic life with long-lasting effects.
