Key Features – GacoPoly™ FASTPASS Pedestrian Traffic Coating

GacoPoly™ FASTPASS is a three-component, aliphatic, high-solids, single-step polyurethane traffic coating system for concrete decks, walkways and balconies. Base, activator and pre-proportioned anti-slip aggregate are supplied together and mixed in the pail, so the whole build goes down in one pass rather than as a separate base coat, aggregate broadcast and top coat.

  • Single-step application – base, activator and aggregate combined in one kit
  • Aliphatic polyurethane – UV stable and colour stable in service
  • 98% solids (ASTM D2369) with a VOC of just 19 g/L, SCAQMD-compliant
  • Meets ASTM C957, the standard for high-solids liquid-applied waterproofing membranes with integral wearing surface
  • UL 790 / ASTM E-108: Pass
  • Pre-proportioned aggregate gives a consistent anti-slip finish without a separate broadcast
  • Light foot traffic 36 hours after application; vehicular traffic needs a further 24 hours on top of that
  • Colours: Concrete Gray, Pewter, Tan
  • Coverage: 6.32 m² per 1.5 gallon kit at 0.89 mm (35 mil) dry film thickness

Coverage is an area rate in square metres per kit, at a stated film build. The 4.5 gallon kit covers 18.58 m² at the same 0.89 mm DFT. Both figures come from the manufacturer’s theoretical coverage of 45 ft² per gallon per mil at 36 mil wet film thickness. This listing is the GacoPoly™ FASTPASS PT (Pedestrian Traffic) system, supplied as the 1.5 US gallon (5.68 litre) kit. Duratite Building Products stocks FASTPASS in the pedestrian grade only, under Gaco part numbers FP6522P-1.5K (1.5 gal) and FP6522P-4.5K (4.5 gal). If you need the 4.5 gallon kit, or you are specifying a deck that will take vehicular traffic, call 01208 832 602 before ordering.

Typical Applications

GacoPoly FASTPASS PT is a pedestrian-traffic deck coating. It is used where a concrete surface has to be waterproofed and walked on:

  • Balconies and access decks – waterproofing with an integral anti-slip wearing surface
  • Walkways and podium decks – external circulation over occupied space
  • Stairs, landings and access routes to plant and rooftop equipment
  • Plant rooms and service areas where the floor takes regular foot traffic
  • Roof-level walkways protecting the waterproofing beneath from maintenance traffic
  • Timber decks, where the substrate is clean, dry and sound

Vehicular decks are a different specification. Where a deck will take vehicles, the manufacturer requires an additional 24 hours of cure beyond the 36 hours needed for light foot traffic, and the grade must be specified for vehicular traffic. Kit size and traffic grade are separate things — a larger kit is not automatically the vehicular grade. Talk to us first on 01208 832 602.

Application Methods
  • 1. Prepare and prime the substrate
See the Surface Preparation tab. Concrete and metal must be primed; clean, dry timber does not normally need a primer.
  • 2. Mix the kit
FASTPASS is a three-component system. Base, activator and the pre-proportioned aggregate are combined in the pail and mixed to a uniform consistency. Mix only what can be applied within the working time.
  • 3. Apply in a single pass
Lay the mixed material down to 0.91 mm (36 mil) wet film thickness, which cures to 0.89 mm (35 mil) dry film thickness. That is where the coverage figure comes from: 6.32 m² from the 1.5 gallon kit, 18.58 m² from the 4.5 gallon kit. No separate aggregate broadcast and no separate top coat are required.
  • 4. Detail the perimeter and penetrations
Use Permathane SM7120 PU sealant at joints and perimeters, with Perma-Glas Mesh or TieTex 272 detail fabric where reinforcement is needed.
  • 5. Cure and open up
Light foot traffic after 36 hours. Where vehicular traffic is part of the specification, allow a further 24 hours on top of that.
Application Equipment
  • Mechanical mixer (low speed, for the three-component mix)
  • Notched squeegee
  • Roller (back-roll to finish)
  • Brush for edges and details
Technical Performance

Surface Preparation

FASTPASS performs only as well as the deck beneath it. Prepare to a clean, dry, sound substrate before any material goes down.

  • Concrete – must be structurally sound, fully cured and free of laitance, curing compounds, oils, grease and previous coatings. Prepare mechanically. Repair cracks, spalls and defective areas before priming. Prime with Elasto-Poxy Primer VOC or GacoFlex E5691.
  • Metal – clean, degrease and prepare, then prime with Elasto-Poxy Primer VOC or GacoFlex E5320.
  • Timber – where the deck is clean, dry and sound, no primer is needed.
  • Primer rate: 225–300 ft² per gallon — 5.5–7.4 m² per litre. This is the primer’s own rate and is separate from the FASTPASS coverage figure.
  • Detail perimeters, upstands and penetrations with Permathane SM7120 PU, using Perma-Glas Mesh or TieTex 272 where a reinforcing fabric is required.
Primers & Topcoats

Role in the system. GacoPoly FASTPASS is a single-step traffic coating: it is the waterproofing layer and the wearing surface in one. It does not need a separate aggregate broadcast or a separate top coat.

Primers

  • Concrete: Elasto-Poxy Primer VOC, or GacoFlex E5691.
  • Metal: Elasto-Poxy Primer VOC, or GacoFlex E5320.
  • Timber: none required when the substrate is clean and dry.
  • Primer coverage: 225–300 ft²/gal (5.5–7.4 m²/L).

Detail materials

  • Sealant: Permathane SM7120 PU.
  • Detail fabric: Perma-Glas Mesh or TieTex 272.

Topcoats

None required. FASTPASS is aliphatic and UV stable, so the applied surface is the finished surface.

Compliance & Certification
  • ASTM C957 – meets the standard for high-solids content, cold liquid-applied elastomeric waterproofing membrane with an integral wearing surface.
  • ASTM E-108 / UL 790 – Pass.
  • VOC – 19 g/L, SCAQMD-compliant.
  • Warranty – the manufacturer publishes a 5-year system warranty for the FASTPASS system. Material warranties are issued by Duratite Building Products Limited.

GacoPoly FASTPASS is manufactured by Amrize under the Gaco brand. It is not BBA certified — no BBA certificate exists for it, or for any Gaco product. The approvals listed above are the genuine ones.

Health & Safety

GacoPoly FASTPASS is a polyurethane system containing isocyanates. Read the Safety Data Sheet in full before use.

  • PPE: chemical-resistant gloves, safety goggles, protective clothing and footwear. Use suitable respiratory protection where ventilation is limited or when spraying.
  • Ventilation: work in a well-ventilated area. In enclosed or partially enclosed decks, provide mechanical extraction.
  • Handling: keep components sealed until mixing. Do not eat, drink or smoke while handling. Avoid skin and eye contact. Mix only what can be applied within the working time; mixed material generates heat as it cures.
  • First aid – Skin: wash with soap and water, remove contaminated clothing. Eyes: rinse with clean water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention. Inhalation: move to fresh air; seek medical attention if symptoms persist. Ingestion: do not induce vomiting; seek urgent medical assistance.
  • Storage and disposal: store sealed, upright, cool and dry, away from frost and direct sunlight. Allow residues to cure fully before disposing of them as construction waste. Do not pour into drains or watercourses. Keep out of reach of children.
Important Notes
  • Grade and kit size. This listing is the pedestrian-traffic (PT) grade in the 1.5 gallon (5.68 litre) kit. The 4.5 gallon kit is available to order.
  • Coverage. 6.32 m² per 1.5 gallon kit and 18.58 m² per 4.5 gallon kit, both at 0.89 mm (35 mil) dry film thickness. Coverage is an area rate; if the specified film build changes, the coverage changes with it.
  • Chemistry. FASTPASS is an aliphatic polyurethane system, not an epoxy. Do not apply epoxy mixing ratios, epoxy cure schedules or epoxy primer regimes to it.
  • Priming is not optional on concrete or metal. Use Elasto-Poxy Primer VOC, GacoFlex E5691 (concrete) or GacoFlex E5320 (metal).
  • Cure times. Light foot traffic at 36 hours. Vehicular traffic requires a further 24 hours.
  • Substrate. Concrete must be sound and fully cured. Repair cracks and spalls before coating.

Common questions

What makes it single-step?
The kit combines membrane, aggregate and catalyst in one mixed application — no separate broadcast and lock coats, so a deck goes from primed to finished in one pass.
How soon can cars drive on it?
Light foot traffic after 36 hours, vehicles after about 60 hours at 25 °C — longer in cold weather.
