GacoPoly E5691 Epoxy Concrete Sealer

Overview

GacoPoly E5691 — Concrete Sealer & Primer

GacoPoly E5691 is a professional two-component concrete sealer that penetrates, consolidates and locks down porous slabs to create a high-bond, dust-free base for performance coatings. It wets out the surface, evens absorption and seals capillaries so your build coat lays uniformly, cures to design film thickness and looks consistent across wide areas.

Used as a concrete sealer and primer on on-grade slabs, podium decks, plant rooms and service corridors, E5691 boosts adhesion, reduces dusting and supports hygiene with a dense, low-odour film. Pair it with GacoPoly FastPass or GacoFloor AS-series anti-slip systems for a seamless, durable finish that keeps traction and cleans down easily—without the patchy look of broadcast aggregates.

E5691 is straightforward to specify and install: mechanical prep, detail any hairlines with Permathane® where needed, prime with E5691 within ambient limits, then apply the chosen build coat. Available in contractor-friendly 5-gallon and 1-gallon kits, it’s the dependable foundation your coating system needs for long-term performance.

Specification

GacoPoly E5691 Epoxy Concrete Sealer

GacoPoly E5691 is a water-reducible epoxy concrete sealer that penetrates, consolidates and primes in a single step, giving porous slabs a dense, dust-free, high-bond base for performance coatings.

Seal + prime in one — locks down laitance and capillaries, evens absorption and promotes strong adhesion for subsequent coatings.

Waterborne epoxy — three-component mix (Part A + Part B + water), low odour with ultra-low VOC and soap-and-water cleanup.

Coverage you can plan — up to ~35–37 m² per gallon on tight, smooth concrete; typically ~18–20 m² per gallon on more porous/profiled slabs. Confirm yield on the first kit.

Fast schedules — practical pot life ~45 minutes (25 °C); ready to overcoat from ~2 hours after water has flashed; can be top-coated within 28 days.

Wide working window — apply when substrate is roughly 10–43 °C with RH ≤ 85%; protect from rain/condensation during early cure.

Performance film — low permeability (perm class ~0.10) and Shore A ~100 hardness for a tough, consolidating base; resistant to common solvents/alkalis and has good acid resistance.

Curing compound function — meets the water-retention requirements of ASTM C309 for new concrete, supporting early sealing on fresh slabs.

Substrates — designed for concrete (and prepared plywood); not for glass or metal. Always overcoat with the specified system.

Appearance — milky when applied; dries clear/amber, highlighting a well-sealed surface ready for coating.

Packaging — contractor-friendly 1-gallon and 5-gallon kits for small areas or large decks.

Use E5691 to stabilise and seal the slab, then apply your chosen build coat for a durable, seamless finish.

GacoPoly E5691 Epoxy Concrete Sealer

GacoPoly E5691 is a water-reducible epoxy concrete sealer used to lock, consolidate and prime slabs so build coats bond hard and lay uniformly.

  • New concrete (early cure & seal) — use as a concrete sealer on fresh decks to control water loss and stabilise the surface prior to the coating system.

  • Porous or dusting slabs — warehouses, factories and plant rooms where a penetrating concrete sealer reduces dusting and evens absorption before anti-slip/topcoats.

  • Podium decks, terraces & balconies — seal/prime the slab for waterproofing or anti-slip systems (e.g., FastPass, AS-series) with a uniform, bond-ready base.

  • Walkways, corridors & stair cores — create consistent suction so traction coats achieve even colour and texture across large areas.

  • Ramps, approaches & loading zones — prime on-grade concrete for vehicular or pedestrian anti-slip finishes; helps resist hot-tyre pick-up once overcoated.

  • Retail/BOH & service areas — low-odour concrete sealer that supports hygiene regimes prior to the final coating.

  • Plywood (approved, prepared) — seals exterior-grade timber/ply where specified, providing a stable primer layer for subsequent coatings.

  • Patchwork substrates — levels out mixed repairs (patch mortars, grinds) so the finished coat looks uniform and bonds consistently.

Always overcoat E5691 with the specified system. Not for glass or metal. Verify coverage on a small test area and install within ambient/recoat limits.

GacoPoly E5691 Epoxy Concrete Sealer

GacoPoly E5691 is a water-reducible epoxy concrete sealer that seals, consolidates and primes in one step. Use the matched tools, control ambient conditions, and keep films uniform for a clean, high-bond base.

Equipment checklist

  • Mixing: low-speed drill (≈300–500 rpm) with epoxy paddle; calibrated measuring jug for water; clean pails; flat stir stick (scrape sides & bottom).

  • Placement: rubber or urethane squeegee (fast wet-out on porous slabs), solvent-resistant rollers (short/medium nap or microfiber) for back-roll; brushes/mini-rollers for edges.

  • Prep & cleaning: diamond grinder or vacuum shot-blaster; industrial HEPA vacuum; approved degreaser; lint-free wipes.

  • Detailing: Permathane® urethane caulk and gun (seal hairlines, perimeters, terminations before priming).

  • QA & environment: wet-film gauge, hygrometer/thermometer, dew-point calculator, area/coverage log.

  • PPE: chemical-resistant gloves, goggles/face shield, protective clothing; respirator where ventilation is limited.

Application

  1. Prepare the slab — Mechanical profile to clean, sound concrete (or approved plywood). Degrease, rinse/wipe, HEPA-vac all dust. Seal non-structural cracks/perimeter gaps with Permathane®; allow to skin/cure.

  2. Check conditions — Substrate dry/SSD, ≥ 3 °C above dew point; ambient within limits (typ. 10–43 °C, RH ≤ 85%). Protect from rain/condensation during early cure.

  3. Mix (three-component) — Pre-stir Part A; add Part B and mix ~2 min; slowly add the measured water while mixing to a uniform blend; mix ~1 min more. Pot life ~45 min @ ~25 °C. Do not exceed the prescribed water addition.

  4. Place & wet-out — Ribbon and squeegee on porous/profiled concrete to drive the concrete sealer into capillaries; immediately back-roll in two directions for an even film. On tight/smooth concrete, roll apply and tip-off. Avoid puddles.

  5. Coverage planning — Up to ~35–37 m²/gal on tight, smooth concrete; typically ~18–20 m²/gal on more porous/profiled slabs. Confirm actual yield on a test bay and record m² per kit.

  6. Dry & recoat — Allow water to flash and the film to dry; overcoat from ~2 hours (conditions dependent). Topcoat within the stated window (up to 28 days). If exceeded, clean/lightly abrade and re-prime if specified.

  7. Housekeeping — Keep the primed surface clean, dry, dust-free until coated. Soap-and-water cleanup while still wet; cured spills may require mechanical removal.

Notes: E5691 is a concrete sealer and primer—always overcoat with the specified system. Not for glass or metal. Maintain ventilation, honour movement joints, and sample the texture/appearance on a small area before full production.

GacoPoly E5691 Epoxy Concrete Sealer

GacoPoly E5691 is a water-reducible epoxy concrete sealer that penetrates, consolidates and primes in one step. It leaves a dense, low-odour film that evens absorption, improves adhesion, and readies slabs for high-performance build coats.

  • Chemistry & solids — Waterborne epoxy (Parts A + B + water), ~32% volume solids; low odour with soap-and-water cleanup.

  • VOC/emissions — Ultra-low VOC (approx. 5 g/L) for use in occupied facilities with normal ventilation.

  • Penetration & consolidation — Seals capillaries, locks down laitance and dusting; cured film hardness around Shore A ~100 for a tough base.

  • Permeance & moisture — Low water-vapour transmission (~0.10 perms) helps control surface absorption. (Not a DPM/moisture-mitigation system.)

  • Cure & recoat — Ready to overcoat from ~2 hours after water has flashed (conditions dependent); topcoat within 28 days.

  • Pot life/working time — ~45 minutes at ~25 °C; warmer temperatures shorten working time. Mix only what can be placed within pot life.

  • Application window — Substrate ~10–43 °C, ambient RH ≤ 85%; substrate at least 3 °C above dew point; protect from rain/condensation during early cure.

  • Coverage planning — Up to ~35–37 m²/gal on tight, smooth concrete; typically ~18–20 m²/gal on more porous/profiled slabs. Confirm yield on a test bay and record m² per kit.

  • Curing compound function — Meets ASTM C309 water-retention requirements for new concrete, enabling early seal/prime where specified.

  • Chemical/cleaning resistance — Resists routine cleaners, alkalies and many site contaminants; supports hygiene regimes before and after overcoating.

  • Appearance — Milky on application; dries clear/amber, producing a uniform, bond-ready surface that improves topcoat colour consistency.

  • Substrates — Designed for concrete (and suitably prepared plywood). Not for glass or metal; always overcoat with the specified system.

  • Storage/QA — Store cool, dry and upright. Use wet-film gauges, environmental logs and sample bays to verify texture, coverage and readiness to overcoat.

These parameters ensure the concrete sealer does its job—locking the slab, balancing suction and delivering reliable intercoat adhesion for long-term system performance.

GacoPoly E5691 Epoxy Concrete Sealer

Objective: give E5691 a clean, dry, sound substrate so the concrete sealer can penetrate, consolidate and prime in one step.

1) General requirements (all areas)

  • Mechanical prep only: vacuum shot-blast or diamond-grind to bare, sound concrete (typ. CSP 2–3 for sealer/primer). Do not acid-etch.

  • Remove contaminants: old coatings, curing agents, adhesives, tyre marks, oils and fines. Degrease, rinse/wipe, then HEPA-vac all dust.

  • Ambient control: substrate ≥ 3 °C above dew point; good airflow; RH ≤ 85%; substrate/air typically 10–43 °C. Protect from rain/condensation during early cure.

  • Movement joints: honour expansion/movement joints through the system; do not bridge live joints.

2) Existing coated floors

  • Abrade/strip back to bare concrete wherever adhesion or compatibility is uncertain. Feathered remnant coatings must be removed to a firm, uniform profile.

3) New concrete

  • Allow to reach sufficient strength, free of standing water and bleed. Remove laitance and construction debris by light blast/grind. E5691 can act as an early concrete sealer/curing aid when specified; surface must be clean and surface-dry.

4) Defects, cracks and edges (before priming)

  • Non-structural cracks/pinholes/perimeter gaps: chase/clean as needed and seal first with Permathane® Urethane Caulk Sealant. Tool to a neat shed-water bead; allow to skin/cure.

  • Spalls/voids: patch with suitable repair mortar; re-profile flush and re-prep.

  • Arrises/penetrations: neat edges around drains, plates and posts; tighten fixings; remove burrs.

5) Plywood/Timber (where specified)

  • Exterior-grade, securely fixed with tight joints and adequate support. Replace swollen/unsound boards. Sand to clean timber and vacuum dust. Seal perimeter/fastener recesses with Permathane® where required. Timber must be dry and stable before applying the concrete sealer.

6) Clean-down & readiness check

  • Final HEPA-vac, tack-wipe if necessary; surface should be clean, dry or SSD, dust-free and uniformly profiled.

  • Tape-mask edges and drainage hardware for clean lines.

  • Confirm temperature/RH/dew point are within limits and plan lanes so a wet edge can be maintained.

  • Test bay: apply a small trial area to confirm wet-out and real-world coverage before full production.

When these conditions are met, mix E5691 (Parts A + B + measured water) and apply by squeegee/roller to wet-out the profile and leave a uniform, bond-ready film for the specified build coat.

GacoPoly E5691 Epoxy Concrete Sealer

Role in the system: GacoPoly E5691 is the penetrating concrete sealer and primer layer. It locks the slab, evens absorption and creates the chemical/mechanical key for your build coat. Always overcoat E5691; it is not a stand-alone wear surface.

System order

  1. Surface prep — mechanical clean/profile to bare, sound concrete (or approved plywood).

  2. Detail sealing (pre-prime) — treat hairlines, pinholes, perimeter gaps and terminations with Permathane® urethane caulk sealant; allow to skin/cure.

  3. Prime — apply GacoPoly E5691 concrete sealer (Parts A+B+water) to wet-out and consolidate the substrate.

  4. Build coat — install the specified coating over E5691 within the recoat window.

  5. Optional sealer/topcoat — add a compatible aliphatic polyurethane sealer where extra stain resistance or cleanability is required.

Compatible build coats (examples)

  • GacoPoly FastPass — single-pass polyurethane with integral texture for seamless, slip-resistant decks.

  • GacoFloor AS150 — pedestrian-grade anti-slip coating for on-grade floors (walkways, stairs, ramps).

  • GacoFloor AS250 — vehicular-grade anti-slip coating for ramps, docks, turn pads and forklift lanes.

Choose application method (roller/trowel/spray) to tune texture; confirm yield/appearance on a small test bay before full production.

Optional sealers & line marking

  • Hygiene/cleanability sealer — a compatible aliphatic polyurethane can be applied thinly over the build coat to boost stain resistance and colour hold. Do not flood or glaze textured systems; you’ll reduce slip performance.

  • Line marking — apply only compatible markings after full cure of the build coat; adhesion-test first and avoid filling texture.

Intercoat timing & conditions

  • Overcoat E5691 from ~2 hours after water flashes off (ambient-dependent).

  • Topcoat within 28 days. If exceeded, clean and lightly abrade; re-prime if specified.

  • Keep surfaces clean, dry and dust-free between coats; maintain substrate ≥ 3 °C above dew point and protect from rain/condensation during early cure.

Exclusions & cautions

  • E5691 is a concrete sealer/primer—not a DPM/moisture-mitigation or crack-isolation membrane. Address vapour drive and structural movement separately.

  • Not for glass or metal. For metal details, use the designated metal primer from the Gaco range.

  • Honour movement joints through all layers; do not bridge live joints with primer or coatings.

QA & documentation

  • Record batch numbers and m² per kit; use wet-film gauges and a photographed test bay for approval.

  • Keep a simple log of temperature, RH and dew point to demonstrate compliance and support warranty/hand-over packs.

GacoPoly E5691 Epoxy Concrete Sealer

Overview: GacoPoly E5691 is a water-reducible epoxy concrete sealer (Part A resin + Part B hardener + measured water). It’s low odour/low VOC but still a chemical coating with irritant and sensitiser risks. Associated products (e.g., Permathane® sealant, AS-series build coats) have their own hazards. Always brief crews to the latest SDS/PDS before work.

Key hazards

  • Skin/respiratory sensitisation (epoxy/amine): Avoid skin contact and inhalation of vapours/mists; sensitised persons may react to very small exposures.

  • Vapours & aerosols: Low VOC ≠ zero risk. Rolling/tipping and any spray can create aerosols—control with ventilation and RPE as needed.

  • Slip hazard: Wet sealer is slippery. Barrier off work zones and post warnings.

  • Surface-prep risks: Shot-blasting/grinding produce silica dust, noise and vibration—use LEV/HEPA extraction and hearing protection; manage exposure durations.

  • Confined/poorly ventilated spaces: Pits, plant rooms and below-grade areas may require permit-to-work, continuous atmospheric monitoring and a rescue plan.

  • Environmental harm: Prevent liquid/runoff entering drains or watercourses.

PPE (minimum)

  • Respiratory: Half-mask respirator with organic vapour + P2/P3 particulate filters whenever ventilation is insufficient or aerosols may form.

  • Hands: Chemical-resistant gloves (nitrile or equivalent), changed regularly.

  • Eyes/face: Chemical splash goggles; face shield when decanting or spraying.

  • Body/feet: Protective clothing and impervious safety footwear.

  • Hearing: Protection during mechanical preparation.

Ventilation & environment

  • Provide cross-flow or mechanical extraction to keep vapours/aerosols low and aid drying.

  • Keep substrate ≥ 3 °C above dew point; typical limits: substrate ~10–43 °C, RH ≤ 85%. Protect from rain/condensation during early cure.

Safe handling & application

  • Detail first: Seal hairlines, pinholes and perimeters with Permathane®; allow to skin/cure before priming.

  • Mix accurately: Pre-stir A, add B, then slowly add the measured water while mixing at low speed (≈300–500 rpm). Do not exceed the prescribed water addition; avoid entraining air.

  • Pot life/working time: ~45 min at ~25 °C—stage labour and lanes to maintain a wet edge.

  • Placement: Squeegee to wet-out the profile, then back-roll evenly. Avoid puddles and contamination.

  • Keep the primed surface clean, dry, dust-free within the recoat window; if exceeded, clean/abrade as directed before overcoating.

Storage & transport

  • Store upright in original, closed containers, cool, dry, frost-free and ventilated.

  • Protect from freezing and high heat; rotate stock FIFO; observe shelf life.

First aid (summary)

  • Inhalation: Move to fresh air; keep at rest; seek medical advice if symptoms persist.

  • Skin: Remove contaminated clothing; wash with soap and water (no solvents).

  • Eyes: Rinse cautiously with water for ≥15 min; remove lenses if easy; get medical attention.

  • Ingestion: Rinse mouth; do not induce vomiting; seek urgent medical care.

Spills & waste

  • Contain with inert absorbent; collect into labelled containers. Prevent entry to drains/watercourses.

  • Dispose of liquid waste, absorbents, used PPE and empty tins per local hazardous-waste rules. Waterborne ≠ benign—follow regulations.

Fire

  • Product is water-reducible and normally non-flammable, but dried films/contaminated rags can burn. Suitable extinguishers: water spray, foam, dry chemical, CO₂. Fire-fighters should use SCBA.

After installation

  • Keep traffic off until dry and within the specified recoat window; then overcoat with the chosen system.

  • Maintain ventilation until residual odour dissipates.

  • Clean with neutral detergents; remove spills promptly.

  • If contamination occurs before overcoating, clean/abrade and re-prime if specified.

This is a site-safety summary. Your RAMS/COSHH (or local equivalent) and the latest SDS/PDS for GacoPoly E5691, the matched build coats and Permathane® are the controlling documents.
